Seung Mun You, Ph.D.
Professor

Education: Ph.D. University of Minnesota, 1990 ~ M.S. University of Minnesota, 1986 ~ B.S. Seoul National University, Korea, 1982

Areas of Expertise: Convective heat transfer and fluid flow, nucleate boiling heat transfer, enhancement of phase change heat transfer, thermal management of high-heat-flux microelectronics, and heat transfer in heat exchanges.

Background: Dr. You received his B.S. degree from Seoul National University in Korea and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota, all in mechanical engineering. Since he joined the Mechanical Engineering Department at UT Arlington in the Fall of 1990, he has established the Boiling Heat Transfer Laboratory at UT Arlington, which includes three boiling heat transfer test facilities, each equipped with a computerized data acquisition system. Dr. You has also developed two experimental methods to measure boiling bubble frequency, size, and velocity using Laser Doppler Anemometer and Image Processing. Above all, he invented a novel boiling heat transfer enhancement coating which modifies the microstructure of heater surfaces resulting in a significant boiling heat transfer improvement. Dr. You is a member of ASME and he is the author of more than 70 publications.
