Luca Massa, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor

Education: Ph.D. Mississippi State University, 2000 ~ B.S.M.E.
Politectnico di Bari, 1997

Areas of Expertise: Combustion, Detonation, Propellant, Hypersonic Flows, Flow Stability, Computational Fluid Dynamics, High Performance Parallel Computing.

Background: Dr. Massa was a research scientist at the Center for Simulation of Advanced Rockets at the University of Illinois before joining the UTA Faculty. Dr. Massa’s research relies on scientific computing methods to investigate the properties of heterogeneous combustion systems, the instability of shear and mixing layers, and solid gas coupling in rocket motors. Development of new numerical methods for the solution of multiscale problems is also an active area of his research. Dr. Massa’s research is oriented towards energetic aspect of the combustion process and optimization of both efficiency and pollution properties of chemical energy conversion.  His research has been funded by DOE, and the AFORL and published in the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Physics of Fluids, AIAA among other journals.
