J. Craig Dutton, Ph.D., P.E.
Professor and Chair

Education: Ph.D. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1979 ~ M.S. Oregon State University, 1975 ~ B.S.M.E. University of Washington, 1973

Areas of Expertise: Gas dynamics, fluid mechanics, propulsion; in particular, experimental, numerical, and analytical studies of high-speed separated and mixing flows; shock wave/boundary layer interactions; nozzle flows; ejector flows; diffuser flows; valve flows; optical-diagnostic measurements of high-speed flows.

Background: Professor Dutton has extensive academic experience at Texas A&M University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and now the University of Texas at Arlington. His current research interests are centered on laser-diagnostic measurements of high-speed separated and mixing flows and shock wave/boundary layer interactions. The experimental techniques employed in his work include LDV, PIV, PLIF, Mie/Rayleigh scattering, CARS, and PSP/TSP. His research has been funded by several federal agencies including ARO, ONR, AFOSR, DARPA, and NSF. He has published the results of his research widely in the refereed journal literature, as well as in conference proceedings. Professor Dutton is a Fellow of ASME and an Associate Fellow of AIAA. He currently serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Experiments in Fluids.
