Atilla Dogan , Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Education: Ph.D. The University
of Michigan at Ann Arbor, 2000 ~ M.S. The University of Michigan
at Ann Arbor, 1998 ~ M.S. Istanbul Technical University, Turkey,
1994 ~ B.S. Istanbul Technical University, Turkey, 1991
Areas of Expertise: Nonlinear Control, Stochastic
Control, Monte Carlo Simulation, Robust Control, Flight Dynamics
and Control, Nonlinear Flight Simulation, Aircraft Escape Maneuvers
in Microburst with Turbulence, Automatic Transmission Modeling and
Control.
Background: Dr. Dogan conducted wind tunnel tests
(balance measurements and flow visualization) of models for a bomb
and missile-launcher carriage to determine aerodynamic characteristics
in a project sponsored by Turkish Air Force while he was a graduate
research assistant in Istanbul Technical University in 1992-1995.
In CASA, Engineering Division, Madrid, Spain, he developed an analytical
method to design an air-cooled-oil-cooler heat exchanger for aircraft
with turbo-prop engines in an engineering training program sponsored
by Undersecretariat for Defense Industries of Turkey in 1993. From
1996 to 2000 he, as a graduate student, developed 6-DOF flight simulator
for aircraft flying in microburst with turbulence, worked on comparison
of various escape guidance strategies in microburst by Monte Carlo
simulations, developed new guidance laws for escaping microburst
with turbulence, and designed controllers to implement the guidance
laws. In 2000-2002, he worked for Ford Motor Company at Transmission
Electronics Department where he developed computer tools and automotive
powertrain models with the emphasis on automatic transmissions for
the purpose of developing, verifying and validating control strategies
for automatic transmissions. He came to UTA in the Fall of 2002,
as an assistant professor in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Department.
