Bumsoo Han, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor

Education: Ph.D. University of Minnesota, 2001; M.S. Seoul National University, 1996; B.S. Seoul National University, 1993

Areas of Expertise: Multiscale transport phenomena in biological and biomedical systems, heat and mass transfer within biological systems, minimally invasive thermal therapies, preservation of biological systems, characterization of thermal and mechanical properties of biomaterials

Background: Dr. Han’s research interests are in biomedical and thermal sciences. He has been performing experimental and computational research on cellular and tissue level heat and mass transfer in various biomedical applications. These include 1) minimally invasive thermal therapies of prostate and breast cancers, and cardiovascular diseases; 2) preservation of biological systems via cryopreservation (i.e. freezing) or desiccation (i.e. drying); and 3) characterization of thermal and mechanical properties of biomaterials. He is also interested in understanding the interaction of nanometer size particles within biological environment for developing and improving new therapeutic modalities.

Prior to joining the University of Texas at Arlington, he has been working as a Research Associate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. He has received the Postdoctoral Award of US Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program. He is a member of ASME, and the Society for Cryobiology.
